Thanksgiving Prime Rib Roast

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! We decided to bring in Thanksgiving with a Slow Cooked Prime Rib Roast. We wanted to tie together the french onion of the green bean casserole with the deliciousness and great taste of bison! This recipe provides for a deliciously crunchy outside with a beautiful, meaty inside. Our family loved this recipe and so did we! Make this roast for any holiday, meal prep, or dinner and you'll love it!

Ingredients:

  • 3 - 4lbs bison prime rib roast

  • ~6oz French fried crispy onions

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) of butter, softened

  • 2 tablespoons chopped garlic

  • 1 tablespoon thyme

  • 1 tablespoon salt

  • 2 teaspoons pepper

  • 16oz beef broth

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Directions:

  1. Mix together the butter, garlic, thyme, salt, and pepper in a small bowl.

  2. Pat the roast with paper towels, and then rub the roast with vegetable oil.

  3. Heat a skillet to medium-high heat and sear the roast on all sides.

  4. Pour the beef broth into the slow cooker.

  5. When the roast is safe to touch, rub the butter mixture over the roast until fully covered and add to the slow cooker with the beef broth.

  6. Cook the roast for around 3 hours, then pack the french onions on top of the roast and continue to cook for another hour for a total of 4 hours.

  7. Remove the roast and let sit on a hot plate and tent with foil.

  8. Serve and enjoy!
